Look what I got at CVS… I was ahead – until I bought the YOUTH CODE…

Please avert your eyes from the horrid marker scribbles on my table…  That is what happens when Daddy’s in Charge!!

Anyhow,  CVS also had great deals this week (check the list HERE).  I went in for the FREE Zyrtex, and the SUPER CHEAP Theraflu – we are talking .27 each CHEAP – and to check out the holiday Clearance of course!  Well, I was not impressed with the holiday clearance, but I did find some 75% off makeup deals…  I got the really nice pumice stone for $1 and the Revlon lipsticks for $1.37 each and to my utter amazement, my lipsticks still triggered the $5 ECB for buying 2 Revlon lip products (even though it was clearly marked that the clearance products did not apply to the ECB deal)!!  YEAH!!  So paying $2.74 for 2 great Revlon products returned me $5 – a $2.26 profit that paid for the Theraflu and the pumice stone  and then some…  I LIKE IT!!!

Being that I had mucho ECB to use, I checked out the Youth Code deal as I have heard it is AMAZING STUFF…  the  deal this week is when you buy $30 worth of L’Oreal and get $10 ECB back…  and I – of course – had $5 off coupons!!  The cream was the biggie at $23.99 and the cleanser was $5.97.  So $30 worth – (2) $5Qs – $10 ECB back = $10 for $30 worth of AWESOME product!!

I’ll let you know if the YOUTH CODE is worth it… and If Olay will need a new BFF…  let’s hope so, because the Olay just isn’t cutting it anymore!!  (Must be the product – right??!!)

Monday Matchups – on Tuesday, and Rite-aid’s Giveaway!!

Today I got $74 worth of products and Rite-aid paid me $7 to take them!!

Rite-aid has awesome deals this week  – I made $2 a piece on each of the Theraflu and Triaminics I bought today , totaling $8 PROFIT – I bought those items with a few other things using that “overage” to essentially pay for the other things!!

Here is how it broke down:

Theraflu and Triaminic are on sale for $4.99 each –

I used –

$3Q (12/4 SS),

-$1Q (RA VV), and

-$2Q (RA Flu Booklet)

Also get -$1 UP reward

See – each one costs $4.99, I used $6 worth of coupons on each and then got another $1 back as an UP reward…  There is a limit of 4 and I made $2 on each one = $8 PROFIT!!

I  used this profit towards the other purchase I made:

Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold – $4.99

I used –

-$2Q (12/4 RP)

Get -$2 UP reward

=.99 each (x2, as I bought the limit…)

Revitalens – $8.99

I used –

-$3Q (12/4 SS)

Get -$5 UP reward

=.99 each (again x 2 as I bought the limit)

So:  8 products (2 Theraflu and 2 triaminic, 2 alka-seltzers and 2 revitalens) totaling about $48.

I used $34 worth of coupons.

So that is $14 out of pocket (or your UP rewards if you are rolling them weekly) for $48 worth of product…

BUT I also got an additional $18 back in new UP rewards…

$14 out, $18 back in…

Overall – I made $4 today on this transaction at Riteaid!!

To make the profit margin even sweeter, there is a deal on reading glasses:

B1G1 ½ price…AND get $5 UP reward on each!

The Glasses were marked $17.99, so that is $17.99 and $8.99 = $26.98

I used –

$5 (RA VV) X 2 = -$10

$5 (RA Flue booklet) X 2 = -$10

Get -$5 UP reward each = -$10

= $3.02 profit!!

Added to my $4 from the original deal, I am now UP over $7 from RA today!!

Now I know what you are thinking…  Did I need the reading glasses?  NO – but I made another $3 on the deal!!  (And these are the deals that got me to over 1300 points and the 20% discount!)  Plus I know tons of people who buy and use those reading glasses – hey, first come – first serve!!

Leave me a comment if you need help with this…  I see no reason what so ever why everyone can’t at the very least get the cold medicines!!  FREE!!

Can it really be over…?

Wow – Can it really be over?  Seems like a blink of the eye, doesn’t it??

All of us here in the Kelsey household had an amazing Christmas…  that is – after the following lessons were learned:

1 – NEVER, EVER leave all of your wrapping until Christmas eve!  It is very possible that you will have a little wine at your in-laws on Christmas eve and come home at 10PM and need to “relax” for a bit and wake up (from the comfy chair) to your husband having a nosebleed like you have never seen before so you get on the internet to see what else you can do to help him… You learn that you are definitely NOT supposed to lean back as you have always been told, and this is learned after said husband begins ‘UGH-UHM” spitting up blood….  At this point you call the emergency room to see if someone can possibly tell you what to do…  They connect you to your poor doctor who answers quite groggily and tells you that you should put ice on his nose and if it continues for more than 1/2 hour, you will need to go to the emergency room!  1/2 hour??  It has already been over an hour and more than three dish towels!  I had never seen – or heard of –  anything like this, it was horrible!!  So I – at 2 am mind you – begin calling all of my family to find someone to come stay with the kids…  NOONE answers…  Kerry is now starting to really panic  – I mean really, is it possible to lose that much blood and still be okay? – so I move on to friends… still noone answers!!  Just as I seriously contemplate calling 911, I finally, finally reach the poor neighbor who comes right over and I load my bloody mess of a husband into the car.  After a “quick” three hours at the ER, and a hubby with a pretty sore nose from the “packing” process, we are traveling back home with the dread of still wrapping presents and getting them done before the kids actually get up!  Of course Kerry, being quite the hypochondriac, acts as if he had major surgery – gawd love that man – but we get it done and finally lay down in bed to hear our angel girl say, “they are in bed… let’s go see if Santa came!!”  Luckily they were so enthralled with “the best Christmas EVER” that they happily – although quite noisily – played with all of their stuff for a couple of hours while Kerry and I dozed on the couch!!  A little more refreshed, we started cooking and entertained over 20 people throughout the day!

2 – The second “hard-learned” lesson is that it is definitely time for a home phone again – or at least another line!  Even though the Mother whom you pay for her cell phone, finally answers and comes over at 2:30 am to relieve your poor neighbor, she of course does not bring that cell phone, so now you have no way of calling home to tell her where the presents are so your kid’s can actually still believe in the magic of Santa!!  fortunately all worked out as my awesome Mama did the remaining dishes and cleaned up some so all we did have to do was get the presents out – and wrapped – LOL!!

In spite of it all, as I said earlier, the kids really did have their best Christmas ever and Kerry is PROBABLY going to live!!

I do have to mention that I premade the cinnamon roll breakfast bake I talked about last week and it was seriously the best EVER…  it’s a Pillsbury recipe and other than making it the night before and baking in the am, I did it exactly as written.  Here is the recipe…  ENJOY!!

Okay – back to the deals…   Check back later to see what you need to run out and grab!!  “Talk” to you all soon!!

Thoughtful Thursday

Super psyched because I did get all of the deals at Rite Aid and CVS this week, super mad because I still can’t get my camera to upload my awesome pics of the deals – and something is always lost in the ‘translation’ – it really is true that a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Anyhow – while you are still out shopping, you can grab these current  deals:

Rite Aid ~ week of 12/18

CVS ~ week of 12/18

And of course – Tops ~ week of 12/18 (I am going tonight- you know at 9pm, after our Girl Scout Christmas Party – fala la lala lala la la!)

So… it’s Christmas – or so they say…  Who else is just not feeling it this year?  I hate to say it, but I need the snow!!  I know, I know – be careful what you wish for!!  How do my friends of the South do it??  Please explain…  I am really at a loss!!

I need just one more gift for my oldest… he has a new obsession with HALO (Lego) guys and apparently he will be very UNCOOL if he does not get some for Christmas…  “EVERYONE ELSE HAS 800 and HE ONLY HAS THREE!!!!”  Seriously…  I am not one to give into this gimmick of “what everyone else has”, especially  since I wrote the book on manipulating my parents with that line (Jordache Jeans and Pistade (sp??) clogs… who remembers??) but he is such a good kid and I want (see how it inevitably always comes back to what I want) him to have the best Christmas EVER – poor kid got seriously screwed by the big guy last year – laptop would not work, his brother smashed his remote truck within minutes of opening, and his air hog got stuck in a ceiling fan and destroyed!!  Great kid that he is – he opted to just play with the DS he had gotten two weeks earlier for his birthday only to realize his sister opened it backwards and broke it too.  Christmas was a pretty unhappy affair for that poor kid last year!  So, YES I am going back to the store to get one of the HALO villages with guys for my awesome son!!  Now the problem is what do I remove??  I am exactly even on presents for the three kids…UGH… the stress of it all…  LOL

…and the presents were wrapped… or NOT… Lotsa time – right??!!  Sorry kids, Santa ran out of paper!!

Personally,  I would rather just skip to the meal and the WINE… How about you??

  • Tomorrow I will update with a deal sneak peak but due to the holiday, I will not be posting the matchups until Monday…  seriously – who is shopping on Sunday anyhow??  Monday = Christmas Clearance = YEAH!!!!

Monday, Monday….

…AND the stockings were hung by the chimney with care… or in our case the vent-free fireplace!

This weekend we did lots of Christmas-y family things, we shopped together, we finished decorating, we wrapped a few gifts, we went to look at holiday lights and we baked some more.  Now I have two sick-y kids and too much to do to slow down… isn’t that the life?  This is so one of those weeks that I wish I was a stay at home mom… but then I wouldn’t have a Christmas to worry about anyhow due to no $$ – right, now that is MY life – LOL!!

Anyhow, I am a faithful Penny Saver reader and have been noticing lots of restaurants and places offering a “buy this gift certificate – get this FREE” deal… so I decided to list them all out for those last minute gift ideas.  These work especially nice for me because we do Friday Lunches at work and can always use the certificates that way as well!  AND they will even work this week when I have absolutely no intention of making dinner – LOL!!

First highlight:  Save-a-lot is opening, this WEDS, December 21st in Batavia!!  AWESOME!!!!!  Now I have to get on the ‘plan Save-a-lot deals’ train and quick!!  BONUS:  They are offering the first 100 customers at their 8am opening a $5 gift card!!

Also, a friend of mine – Lori Ferrarro, mentioned a great deal at her family business, Skateland Family Fun Center in Lockport…  “Our roller skating rink (Skateland Family Fun Center) is offering a free family admission pass ($24 value) for every $25 gift card you buy. Check out our web site www.skatelandlockport.com. We have bounce houses, laser tag, skating and video games! Family owned so every $ really helps us.”  Thanks for letting us in on the deal Lori – looks like a 2 for 1!!

Next I spotted a Citrus Truckload Sale: Sat. December 24th and Sat. Jan.21st, 1-4pm at Clor’s Meat Market.  $20 for a 20# box (Fresh from the Grove) Florida Seedless Navel Oranges and/or Ruby Red Grapefruit.  I have a friend that got these and said they were great – I am going to try it this time!

Other deals I spotted this week in the Genesee Valley Penny Saver:

Picasso’s – FREE gift when you buy $50.00 worth of gift certificates – (585)344-5551

Batavia’s Original – Buy $40 gift card, get a $10 card FREE – or Buy a $50 gift card, get a $15 card FREE – (585)343-3303

Alex’s Place – (from their web site) – Two FREE racks of our Alex’s Heat-n-Eat, take home ribs for any $50 gift card purchased! (585)344-2999

Red Osier – There were gift card deals listed last week, but now I do not see them… worth asking though!!

Ficarella’s – same thing, they did have gift card deals listed… give them a call (585) 343-5545

Okay – off to work…  Happy Monday everyone!!
